A mistreated 3-year-old girl is adopted by a former naval captain who says, “She is the world to me.”

They had no idea they would adopt the girl when a friend asked them to care for her kid temporarily. The child had been through a lot and was finally in a setting where they could feel safe.

Families made up of happy, loving, and supportive individuals are a basic human right. Insufficient parental monitoring can cause children to suffer physically, psychologically, and emotionally. Little Maci Jones went through a similar situation in life.

Maci was a cheerful and adorable little girl who loved to dance and visit the beach. However, her life suddenly took a terrible turn, leaving her in a terrible situation. On September 20, 2017, her ex-boyfriend Stevie Wallace phoned her mother.

TERRIFIC CALL FROM THE PHONE

In order to return to her job in Florida, Maci’s mother left her daughter with Wallace in a rental home in south Indian River County. Wallace informed her that Macy had been hurt during a confrontation between his child and Macy.

As time passed, Macy’s health kept becoming worse. She passed out from exhaustion. What the doctors told her when Sarah and Wallace eventually succeeded in bringing her to Indian River Medical Centre completely shattered her.

Even though Macy had bruises from a fight between two toddlers, it turned out that they were not the origin of her wounds. She had severe eye damage and cerebral swelling. Doctors deemed her brain to be inoperable because of the extent of the bleeding.

According to Dr. David Walter of the child protection team, Maci’s injuries were caused by adult-inflicted harm. He compared it to being thrown from an overturned automobile or falling three stories.

The couple took care of Maci for the next two months, during which time her health seemed to recover mysteriously.

Walters predicts that the girl’s brain cells will likely continue to degenerate. Maci was sent to the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital at St. Mary’s Medical Centre for treatment. She was in critical condition and required many procedures.

OVERCOMING THE WORST

According to court documents, she suffered a cut on her face, a punctured lung, brain damage, and being severely bruised all over. Wallace’s description of his son’s altercation with Macy was also found to be inconsistent by deputies.

Wallace was incarcerated without bond in the county jail on January 17, 2018, after being accused of serious child abuse. It was challenging for Maci’s mother to care for her daughter while balancing her job, eviction, and an inquiry at the state child welfare agency.

She then got in touch with her friends, the Joneses, and requested that they function as a temporary foster family for her daughter. Captain Darin Jones, 55, of Indian River County, was a retired policeman with more than 30 years of experience.

FAMILY JONES

The Joneses were initially ignorant of the full facts until Maci’s mother contacted him and his wife, Lisa Jones, about opening a restaurant in downtown Vero Beach. One month later, they were there to welcome Maci as she emerged from her coma. Darin made the following disclosure:

“All you had to do was fix your gaze on the infant. She is on the ground, helpless and exposed. Tears started to form in my eyes. How could you behave that way towards a little girl?

The pair took care of Maci for the next two months, during which time her health seemed to recover on its own. After learning that Maci’s unmarried and inexperienced parents couldn’t properly care for her, Darin and Lisa made the decision to adopt her.

ADOPTED OFFICIALLY

The Joneses legally adopted Maci on August 15, 2018. Her adoptive parents enjoyed being in charge of raising her. Darin even went so far as to sell his company to raise the money necessary to cover her medical expenses and counseling sessions. The child’s happy father said:

The best thing I’ve ever done in my life, she says.

The treatment program for Maci included speech, physical, and sign language therapy, had poor eyesight, hearing, and limited speech and walking abilities.

The public was quite interested in TC Palm’s Facebook post on Maci’s adoption. | Facebook page for TCPalm
However, after meeting Darin and Lisa, she started thriving and enjoying holidays and luxurious foods. The Jones family gave Little Maci another chance. There aren’t enough people in the world who are like them.
