After her husband abandoned her in the hospital, she unexpectedly finds love once more.

The woman’s 14-year marriage ended when she became paralysed, adding to the agony she was already experiencing. After experiencing a great deal of heartache, Riona Kelly is rediscovering happiness and love.

Riona had a vertebral stroke, which left her unable to walk for the rest of her life. This was sufficient for her husband to flee. Fortunately, Riona met a handsome personal trainer who immediately became her new partner.

Riona, 37, was taken to the hospital by ambulance in March 2015 following a spinal stroke that left her paralysed from the waist down. Following a mere 5-day hospital stay following her stroke, Riona’s spouse decided to dissolve their union.

Not only did her spouse decide to divorce her, but he was also abandoning their five children: Nara, 16; Caleb, 11; Izabela, 9; Logan, and Kalania, the youngest two at age 5.

“My friend Sarah became my next of kin after my husband abandoned me in the hospital, and it was she and the kids that supported me during my recovery,” Kelly clarified.

Kelly believes that their marriage broke down because of her injuries. “Now that I look back, I realise how miserable my marriage was, but we had responsibilities and a life together.”

Riona stated, “It was the time I needed my husband the most,” despite their problems. One of the most crucial elements of Riona’s healing process is having a solid support network following such a catastrophic event.

When the six weeks passed, Riona’s recuperation seemed in bad shape. Her doctors warned her that she might not be able to walk again since she was still unable to move her legs. They informed her that her spine could have been harmed in an automobile accident that happened eighteen months earlier.

Being a mother and having to get used to living in a wheelchair is no easy feat, let alone the additional challenge of living without her spouse by her side.

Riona fell into despair, paralysed and struggling to overcome all that was thrown at her. “I hated it and hated myself the first time I went out in a wheelchair because I thought everyone was staring at me,” the woman remarked. “I didn’t want to live anymore, and if someone had given me the option, I would have ended my life.”

With the help of the parallel bar, Riona could eventually take her first steps after many hours of physical therapy, demonstrating that she hadn’t given up just yet. Riona commented, “I was dragging my body, and I had no feeling in my legs, but I didn’t care, I was walking and that’s all that mattered,” about her enormous initial success.

“My consultant was very emotional; he couldn’t believe I had done it with the help of a standing frame,” she explained.

“I gradually gained strength every day, and after four months in the hospital, I was finally let to return home.”

“I was determined to do it for my children, even though it took me 25 minutes to climb 16 steps and the same amount of time to descend again.”
Following a prolonged period of physical rehabilitation, Riona couldn’t help but become enamoured with her affable personal trainer, Keith Mason.

“Keith and I maintained contact after our session; he would inquire about my well-being, and our relationship flourished from that point on.”

Now that the two have been dating for under a year, Riona says all her kids love Keith. “I feel like I’m living the life I deserve,” she exclaims.

Riona has conquered two marathons with her wheelchair and can now walk without assistance! “I try not to use my wheelchair because my home hasn’t been adapted, but I now only need it for long distances,” she stated.

Riona claims that her accident and everything that happened to her “was the best thing to ever happen” and that she is now more grateful than ever. “I’m back in the gym, and with Keith’s help, I’m getting better and stronger than ever,” the woman declared.
