Even after spending years with his adoptive parents, this little youngster was unaware that his “family” was looking for a way to throw him away like he was nothing, and the worst part was that they were successful in their endeavors.
The ultimate act of charity is to adopt a child and give them the life they have always deserved. This is especially true for kids whose biological parents ignored them and had previously mistreated them brutally.
Sadly, there are instances where adoptive parents abandon the kids they once took in, as was the case with Anthony, an adopted young boy.
Instead of loving him and being there for him in sickness and in health as they should have done on the day, Anthony was brought to the hospital, his adoptive parents abandoned him there.
The fact that they were legally able to “dump” their child is one of the situation’s most upsetting elements.
All the promises of a permanent family were thrown out the window, leaving this small girl alone, abandoned, terrified, and emotionally damaged.
When others found out about this boy’s awful death, they found it hard to believe that there were people around who were as caring as his family. He claims that they cared for him for seven years before leaving him just as he needed them.
Since he was not a part of the strategy they had developed to abandon their child, the author writes, “He had no idea when or if they would ever come back for him.” Even though it had happened before, most people could not understand how a parent could subject their child to such treatment. You see, they had tragically done the same thing to their second adopted child a few years prior, which was the situation in this case.
Then, however, Anthony had the misfortune of running across a man by the name of Peter Mutabazi, who dramatically changed the course of his life.
Peter came from a challenging family. He used to reside in a rural hamlet on the border of Rwanda and Uganda with his abusive father, who he mistreated him. He decided to devote his life to helping children who were having problems in life as a result of the hardships he had to endure as a child.
Peter ultimately fulfilled his dream of helping youngsters in need of affection and home after arriving in the United States and starting a successful real estate company in Oklahoma.
Peter’s journey into foster care began with the adoption of two boys, who he fell in love with when he saw them. Nevertheless, the choice to raise them was quickly reversed when the Family Court decided they should be reunited with their biological father.
In addition to being happy for them, Peter was heartbroken at the thought of spending a long time apart. He was confused about whether or not to accept the task when he was contacted about a child who he was supposed to care for “only for the weekend.”
He eventually nodded but decided against asking the youngster about his family or past experiences. Anthony first appeared in Peter’s life at this time.
Peter had no idea that what he had expected to be a “short weekend” would actually last a lifetime.
Regarding Anthony, Peter stated the following:
In no way did I ever see myself being a foster parent to a child whose parents had abandoned not one but two of their children while leading lives that satiated the strict background check requirements for parenting foster children.
When Anthony first met Peter, he addressed him as “Dad,” and they hit it up immediately. However, Peter cautioned him from addressing him in this way since he wanted to avoid establishing a strong bond with someone who would only be staying in his home for a short period of time (48 hours).
I told him he could address me as “Mr. Peter,” then 20 minutes later, he asked if he may address me as “Dad.” What? He persisted in calling me “Dad” even though I didn’t even know his last name. This was unusual since most foster children would tell you right away that you are not their father and “never will be,” in their words. The young person I had just met was obviously not even attempting to make that point.
On Monday, Peter couldn’t resist asking the social worker where Anthony was. The response shattered his heart into a million pieces. His adoptive parents, who were harsh, abandoned the kid first, and then his original parents abandoned him a second time. He could never fathom how such a good boy could be abandoned twice.
Peter had no idea that it was legal for adoptive parents to take their kids out of the house.
The social worker said that Anthony’s situation was referred to as a “failed adoption.” After everything this child had gone through, Peter recognized he couldn’t be the second person to let him down.
By signing a document, they absolved themselves of their parenting responsibilities and haven’t looked back since. Sincerely, this stunned me! The information I was hearing seemed too unbelievable to be true. I burst into tears and felt enraged at what these adults had done to this 11-year-old kid.
I wouldn’t let him slip by undetected once again. In addition, he was already calling me “Dad.” I requested a placement letter from the social worker that same day so that I could enroll him in school the following day. She seemed happier when I informed her I was serious, and we both started sobbing happily.
It just took a few months to finalize Anthony’s legal adoption as Peter’s son. The two of them were ecstatic to have found one another. And although it appeared at first that this extraordinary man had saved the helpless child, the truth was that they had actually saved one another.
