“It doesn’t matter their age, gender, or ethnicity; they chose to love each other in spite of what other people were doing.”
Humanity survives because we support one another in times of need.
A woman named Darrien Middleton shares a sweet tale about her grandmother, Nana, and a young child from the neighborhood.
For almost 38 years, Nana has resided in the same home and wouldn’t swap it for anything. She refused to move in with Darrien even after learning she had cancer since she felt that home was where all of her memories were. She also loved living in her neighborhood and knew that the people there would support her in any way.
Being a student and a Nurse, Darrien didn’t have time to see Nana as often as she would have liked, but she knew her neighbors, especially 7-year-old Caleb, were taking good care of her grandmother.
Nama and Caleb originally got together over an extra dish of food Nana had made and given him. It would appear as though Nana had given him a $100 bill. “He was very appreciative and thankful for a steak supper,” Darrien told Love What Matters.
After that, Caleb visited the older woman five times daily to ensure she had all she needed. Even during Nana’s cancer treatments, he helped Darrien.
He doesn’t come from an affluent background, but it’s clear that he was loved and raised. He can make you laugh until you cry, bust out a dance routine in a second, and extol school virtues. The affection this child has received as a consequence of this story is something he deserves. He breaks from the norm and pleases everyone he interacts with.
He has shown my grandma such affection, for which I will always be thankful. I am aware that it supported her at her lowest points. He’s never going to know how much I think of him. Regarding the unique youngster, Darrien stated, “I hope he understands the influence he has had on her life and mine.”
The picture of Nana and Caleb sitting on the porch together went viral and came to represent their connection. “Age doesn’t matter, gender doesn’t matter, ethnicity doesn’t matter—they decided to love one other despite what everyone else is doing around them,” Darrien said as her post’s conclusion.
Nana passed away, but she was surrounded by love in her last years.
